Garages, if offered, usually detached and tucked back behind the home. Formal, public rooms appear front-facing rooms, are somewhat
more square in shape, off the center hall. Casual living is done on the rear half, but Kitchen. Laundry, garage access is kept separate from Family Rm areas or rear yard access.
Exposed brickwork is decorative, nice architectural mouldings darker and millwork, but simply presented. Often painted, or stained colors with accenting white walls, and alas, wallpapers!
Wood clapboard siding is often stained, Wood shake roofing. Press-board siding was also used, and requires constant vigilance on the maintenance end, as this is critical to it's longevity, though much should have been replaced by now. Shallow lot depths, rectalinear sized lots, with long side to the street Ceiling heights are lower, typically 8', though family rooms maybe partially vaulted, or 'sunken'. First floor laundry locations.
Fireplaces are masonry, wood-burning depth, and in separate stacks, offering more variety in their placements. Usually upwards of 2500 sq ft. footprints on 2 floors. Great Center hall format. Featuring straight run staircases, w/powder room, coat closet nearby 2.5 baths, 4 to 5 bedrroms, double-wide, wood-doored closets.
Great rooms sometimes appear in above-garage locations but can feel disconnected or be serviced by separate staircases.
Upstairs, Master bedroom is en-suite with walk-in closet, though larger, offers little space for sitting areas,Walk-up attics for storage, are accessed from a bedroom Second, and sometimes third, baths can be 'jack and jill" or hall baths with lower, double vanities.
